The Gruet Winery began as an experimental vineyard of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes in Engle New Mexico in 1984. Gilbert Gruet had been producing fine champagne in Bethon France since 1952 and his children Laurent and Nathalie moved to New Mexico to create the wonderful sparkling wines- Gruet Brut N.V. and Gruet Brut Blanc de Noirs. Gruet produced these wines following the strict guidelines of a true Methode Champenoise but they cannot be called “champagne” unless they are produced in the Champagne valley of France.
Since those early days the Gruet Winery has grown steadily and now produces nine sparkling wines as well a two chardonnays and two Pinot Noirs. Their wines continue to win awards and gain respect of wine aficionados around the world. Gruet winery tours are scheduled for the last Saturday of the month at 2pm. For more information- Click here.
