The Tecolote Cafe serves what many Santa Feans call “the best breakfast in Santa Fe.” It was opened by Alice and Bill Jennison in 1980 with a mission to serve excellent food at a reasonable price, while making one feel at home. The cafe’s motto is “Great Breakfast-No Toast”, and you won’t miss the toast, because they serve a wonderful “bakery basket” that includes homemade muffins, cinnamon roles, biscuits, strawberry jam and whipped butter. The menu features Northern New Mexico favorites- Burritos, Huevos Rancheros, Carne y Huevos, Enchiladas and American traditions like Eggs Benedict, Steak & Eggs Breakfast, Omlettes and of course great lunch dishes.
The accolades that the Tecolote has received over the years include “best breakfast” awards from local and national media and three segments on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network. Guy’s all time favorite dish is Huevos Yacatecos which features corn tortillas layered with black beans, two eggs any style, green chile, Swiss and feta cheese and pico de gallo- surrounded by fried bananas.
Here are some recent reviews by Tecolote’s customers:
“Great food, great service, great local atmosphere. I suggest Huevos Rancheros with a side of Jalapeño Bacon. DELICIOUS!”
“Woohoo! As good as it gets, and I mean it! This is my favorite breakfast place in Santa Fe. They have the best green chile and their breakfast basket is amazing.”
“We have been going to Tecolote for 30 years and we have tried everything on the menu. It is our very favorite place to go for breakfast. The carne adovada burrito which is very lean with delicious red chile is one of our favorites.”
